SOPHIA (Σοφία, Greek for “wisdom”) is a Creative and Cultural initiative and a brand which strives to evoke the authentic and the cultural story telling of Greek craftsman artists and designer, through ethical trade and collaborative processes. By promoting, selling or simply sharing beautiful ideas or products, we can empower local economies and strengthen communities, starting with our own in Greece. We believe in starting local with the hope that these ideas spread globally.
Alexandra, a Greek designer, who imagined “Sophia”, using a palette of beauty, emotion and character to create a truly original home collection where the precious classical heritage of her home country takes the shape of unique objects made in Greece.
We spoke to Alexandra to find out a little more.
- What do you love most about being a designer?
Finding inspiration in the Golden Age of Greece, I am most happy in twisting and transforming something old and meaningful into something brand new, thought-provoking and unique whilst preserving ethics, authenticity and transparency.
- We love all your work, but what is your favourite?
I’m not sure I can point out a favourite as I concentrate on tomorrow’s new Collection hoping this will be the best and my favourite.
- How does your brand reflect the Mediterranean?
Mediterranean refers to multiple regions North of the Mediterranean Sea, so there’s a lot of colour and pattern variations in the style . Sophia, being a Greek brand and part of the Mediterranean has as its main aim the prominence of the Greek cultural heritage by giving new aesthetics to Greek design through unique and contemporary products.
- How would you describe your brand in 4 words?
Greek, Colourful, Exclusive, Thinking.
- Describe a typical day for you.
Early riser, I reply to email and our social media responses, problem solving, collaborating with my wonderful team, enjoying my work day and enjoying my family life. I am very grateful for my life in Greece, the people, the light, my work that I love.

Been, studied, lived and loved it! Charming polite people, rich history and places to see, buzzing with new ideas and Art, what is not to love?
